Cyberpunk 2077 may have had a couple of bumps in the road with its launch, but it broke records and saw a profit on its first day of release. CD Projekt Red released a report on Friday announcing that the game’s licensing royalties related to pre-orders have exceeded all of their development costs, with promotional costs either already recouped or anticipated by the end of the year.
The game launched on Thursday and has earned positive reviews on the whole, though a few launch bugs resulted in some negative press for the company such as clothes disappearing and genitals clipping out of clothing. CD Projekt Red is releasing patches to resolve those issues, as well as some performance issues.
The game has also had the biggest PC game launch ever, with 4.72 million of the 8 million total pre-orders coming on PC. That tops World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, which sold 3.7 million copies in its launch the previous week.
